With our appointment as specialist wayfinding and signage consultant for Expo 2030 Riyadh Detailed Masterplan and Detailed Design, Spaceagency becomes one of the very few design practices in the world to have worked across three consecutive World Expos.
The sequence began at Expo 2017 Astana, where Spaceagency designed the wayfinding and signage system for a 170-hectare site receiving more than ten million visitors - one of the most complex pedestrian navigation challenges a temporary destination can present. At Expo 2020 Dubai, we developed an extensive wayfinding system for one of the largest and most visited Expos in the event's modern history. Each commission built a deeper understanding of how people orient themselves, move through, and make sense of environments operating simultaneously at urban scale and human scale.
Riyadh 2030 is the third chapter. The brings our accumulated knowledge - of crowd dynamics, multilingual communication systems, phased delivery, and the particular pressures of a global audience arriving in an unfamiliar environment - to bear on what will be one of the defining events of the decade for Saudi Arabia and the wider region.
Three World Expos. Three major regions. An unbroken thread of expertise that sets us apart.
We’re working a consortium of brilliant designers, in during concept masterplan (CMP) lead by the competition winner, Laboratory for Visionary Architecture (LAVA) and during Detail Masterplan and Detail Design by Buro Happold.
