Sarah Manning is a founding director of Spaceagency. Her education comprises a Master’s Degree in Architecture and Urbanism from the Design Research Laboratory at the Architectural Association. She graduated magna cum laude from Duke University with a BA in International Comparative Studies.
Under her tenure the practice has gained recognition as a leader in the field of wayfinding and environmental graphic design. Her professional experience comprises a wide range of international commissions which integrate information design, architecture and urbanism. Before founding Spaceagency in 2008, she held the position of Associate Director for the strategic design consultancy Space Syntax, where she led a team of designers focusing on pedestrian strategies and public realm interventions with sites ranging from London to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Previous to her masters degree she worked as an Art Director at a 3D media company in New York City; in exhibit design at the United Nations Headquarters on travelling exhibitions promoting the mission of the United Nations, and in new media design in the San Francisco Bay Area. Sarah’s international focus led her to become a founding Trustee of the charity Architecture for Humanity UK. Within Architecture for Humanity she jointly established a humanitarian lecture series aimed at publicizing architects’ and designers’ efforts to use their ingenuity to promote humanitarian relief and development.
